As many of you will have heard, the Australian Government’s new Social Media Minimum Age laws come into effect on 10 December 2025. These changes will impact the way clubs, including ours, can communicate with members under the age of 16.
What This Means for Our Football & Netball Community
Under the new laws, anyone under 16 will no longer be able to hold an account on major social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and others.
This means some of our junior players may no longer be able to receive updates, training changes, or team information through our usual social media channels.
How We Will Support Our Under-16 Members
Our priority is to ensure every young member continues to feel informed, included, and connected.
To make this transition smooth, we will:
- Continue posting fixture and club updates on our public pages (still viewable without an account).
- Ensure Team Managers and Coaches communicate all essential information through alternative channels such as WhatsApp, SMS or Team App (depending on each team’s current setup). Your coach will let you know their method of communication.
- Keep parents fully updated on where and how information will be shared.
What Parents & Guardians Need To Do
To help us stay connected with your under-16 players, we kindly ask parents to:
✔️ Ensure we have up-to-date parent/guardian contact details (email + mobile).
✔️ Check team communications regularly, especially if your child can no longer access social media.
✔️ Share key updates from the club with your child so they don’t miss anything important.
✔️ Let us know if your family needs additional support with receiving communications in another format.
Our Commitment
Our club is built on connection, community and supporting our young people.
These changes won’t change that. We’ll continue to adapt so every player — on field, on court and off — stays informed and included.
If you have any questions, please reach out to our committee.
